If you are one of those who cannot wait endlessly for the Aakash tablets to be delivered, and have set your eyes on the low cost tablets offered by BSNL and Pantel Technologies Pvt Ltd. or are one of those who want some premium features at low prices, then knowing how to book your BSNL tablet is a question, that must be on your mind. Let’s have a look at how you can have your own BSNL tablets.
BSNL tablets are offered in three variants namely IS701R, WS704C and WS802C which are aimed at the students as well the professional users and are priced at Rs. 3250, Rs. 10500 and Rs. 13000, respectively. Currently the procedure to buy BSNL tablets is through the website http://www.pantel.in/PreeBook_Tablet.aspx by filling up the various details as asked in the form. After this you get a booking id and an automated order confirmation from the website. Customers need to retain the booking id for future reference until the tablet is delivered to them. The mode of payment is cash on delivery but the final mode would be confirmed via email, once the tablets are ready to be delivered to them. The delivery of pre-booked tablets has begun since March 2012 as per the company’s website.
Once your tablets are ready to be delivered you shall receive an email stating the various methods by which you can make the payments for your tablets. Thing to be noted here is that the price of the tablets include only VAT and any other charges, namely octroi, shipping etc. need to be paid to the courier company by the customer while taking the delivery. The rates are however pre-negotiated by Pantel and BSNL to ensure reasonable price to the customers. Pantel also plans to start retailing these BSNL tablets and the list of its retail partners will be put up soon on the official website.
Furthermore, if someone needs to cancel their pre booked tablet, the same can be done by sending an email to the email address through which their order confirmation was received. They must state their booking id in their cancellation request as well. Again, a confirmation of the cancelled order will be communicated to the customer via email.
Pantel and BSNL have also setup various customer care centers in case of any after sales service requirements. Customers can enquire for the same on the number +91 120 4805200. Moreover a detailed list of service centers will be shortly put up on the company’s website to locate a service center near to the customer’s area.
BSNL and Pantel Technologies Pvt Ltd’s BSNL Tpads run Android’s Gingerbread Operating System. However the company has promised that the higher end tabs namely, WS704c and the WS802c can be upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. The IS701R is the low end and low cost tablet that is a direct competition to the Aakash tablet and comes with identical specs of 256 MB RAM, 2GB internal storage and full HD palyback. Both tablets have WIFI, USB and 3G support via USB dongle. The difference however being that the Akash comes with a 700 MHz processor as opposed to 1GHz on the IS701R; however the IS701R does not have a SIM card slot that the Aakash tablet can boast off, while the Tpad comes with HDMI port, that the Aakash lacks. It’s a close call between the two and the price is also neck and neck with Aakash priced at Rs. 2999 and the Tpad IS701R costing Rs. 3250.
The other two BSNL WS series tabs are way above the Aakash and the IS701R and are mainly aimed at the professional user. WS tabs come with capacitive touch screens as opposed to the resistive on the Aakash and the IS701R. Further the internal storage gets boosted up to 4GB and the RAM is at 512 MB. Other major upgrades in the WS series are the features like A-GPS, G-Sensor, and Bluetooth along with the standard USB ports and WIFI connectivity. WS tabs also get 2MP rear and VGA front facing cameras. The 704c has a 1 GHz processor and a 7 inch screen, while the 802C gets a 1.2 GHz processor with an 8 inch touch screen.
BSNL and Pantel seem to have struck a right balance between pricing and features and haven’t aimed at competing with the Aakash tablet alone. Their feature rich tablets can compete with a wide range of low cost and mid-range tablets in the market. Its success however depends on the actual performance and the promptness of deliveries and quality of after sales services.
