Features and Specifications of Micromax Funbook Pro

Micromax is fast emerging as a leading Indian mobile device company and has managed to carve its own niche in the mobile device market, which includes entry level phones, smart phones and tablet pc. Although its products are not intended to compete with the iPAD or the GALAXYs, it still makes pretty good devices and offers them at very low prices. A major part of its success is the Android smart phones and tablet range and specifically the Micromax Funbook range of tablets, which have enabled the company to get good amount of brand recognition and market share.

Micromax Funbooks usually have good performance for their segment and one of the more popular one is the Micromax Funbook Pro. Unlike other budget tablets, this comes with the largest 10.1 inch touch screen, making it more preferred over other tabs, as it comes for only Rs. 9000. From the above features and specifications of the Micromax Funbook Pro it does appear to be a pretty good tablet but it is so in reality? Well YES and in some parts NO. Let me explain. Micromax Funbook Pro is a low cost device, but is not a very low end device. It is mid range in terms of performance. At 9000 bucks it is not competing with the Google Nexus 7 or the Samsung Galaxy Tab and not in the wildest dream with the Apple iPAD. Instead the Funbook hits the sweet spot between the Price v/s Size battle among the low end tablets, as for some reason in a country like ours we do get obsessed with the size factor.

Details, Features and Technical Specifications of Micromax Funbook Pro

Not many low cost tablets under Rs. 10,000 are available that have a 10 inch display.  Moreover this Funbook comes with a plethora of connectivity options which again is a BIG PLUS for a tablet of this price range. The processor and RAM allow most of the apps and games to work without much stutter. However Heavy Graphic games can be a problem for this device. Web browsing is also pleasant on this large screened tablet but again if you have a webpage that has a lot of media on it, the performance starts to lag a bit, but only a bit. YouTube videos are not a problem. The WIFI connectivity and the ‘compatible’ 3G dongle both work without issues. HD Videos play very smoothly and almost all formats are supported out of the b0x. Audio is a bit on the low side but with the 3.5 mm jack you can plug in your headphones or speakers and crank the volume up. Although it does not have any GPRS connectivity, you can work around it if you have a smart phone with WIFI Hotspot feature. All you need to do is activate the WIFI hotspot on your phone and your Funbook’s WIFI will pick the signal just fine.

The HDMI and USB connectivity ensure that you can connect your device to an HDTV via mini HDMI cable (not included in the box) and also play videos or content from your external thumb drives or card readers. The USB on-the-go cable included in the box allows connecting not just external drives, but also keyboards, mouse etc. The VGA camera is decent at best and does the job for basic self portrait shots or video chat etc. over 3G connections.

The tablet comes with stock Android 4.0.3 so there’s a RAW android experience in its UI as well. Not much has been done to customize the interface of the tablet and while it is not a problem at all, the interface does lag a bit at times but it could be more to do with the tablet itself rather than the raw Android UI. Battery life is decent, not great not bad.

The Micromax Funbook Pro is a sincere effort to make a low cost tablet which can give a satisfactory performance and for Rs. 9000, there is no reason why you can’t choose it. It allows you to check you mails, surf the internet, play games, watch videos, listen to music, check some word or excel files, read a few PDFs etc. It also is a portable sort of media player when connected to an HDTV. The tab does have its share of lags and stutters. You can also check out iBerry Auxus Core X2 and Karbonn Cosmic Tab which cost around 1,000 bucks more. The Karbonn and Auxus tabs have dual core processor as well.
