Karbonn mobile tablet user reviews – 4 Tablets

Karbonn mobile tablets are available in various iterations and while some are too old or even discontinued by the company, such as the Smart Tab 1; new tablets have also been introduced. Karbonn tablet price is always just about right and it has in the past made decent tablets. Currently there are 4 tablets available in the market in terms of physical size and form factor. However, broadly there are two types of tablets from the company in terms of performance and hardware, the dual cores and the single cores. Let us find out more in the Karbonn tablet reviews.

Karbonn Smart Tab ST10 Cosmic:

This latest addition to the Karbonn tablet lineup belongs to the dual core family. Its specifications and features are as follows:

  • 9.7 inch capacitive touch screen, 1024 x 768 resolution
  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
  • 1.5 GHz Cortex A9 Dual Core processor
  • 1 GB DDR3 RAM
  • 1.5 GB internal storage, expandable via micro SD card
  • WIFI, Bluetooth, HDMI, USB connectivity options
  • 3.5 MM audio jack
  • 3G via external USB dongle (only compatible modems)
  • 2 MP rear camera and VGA front camera
  • NO SIM SUPPORT
  • Price Rs. 9,500

The above mentioned specs should pretty much speak for the tablet. Dual core processor and a gig of RAM supporting a smooth Android Jelly Bean OS should make this tablet a smooth performer. Well, actually it’s more snappy than smooth. It’s not bad as its pretty fast and things open and close pretty fast. However the display could have been slightly brighter but then again its not a big time deal breaker either, same can be said for the sound. It could have been loud but the 3.5 mm jack allows you to connect your speakers or headphones as a work around.

The camera is an average affair but then most tablets do not take their cameras seriously either. The apps and games run very well and full HD videos are breeze. WIFI and other connectivity features support this tablet well and respond well to the user demands. Google Playstore accessibility means you can download any game and app from the store.

It must be said that this tablet is quiet capable of handling majority of things thrown at it, although like any other budget tab from any other manufacturer, this one too lags while running games with excessive graphics or displaying media heavy web pages. But it is NOT A GAMING TABLET and is not something that would bother your daily usage and content consumption experience. In case of freeze or hang issues, there is a tiny reset button on the side of the tablet to reset the device as the tab has a fixed back so removing the battery won’t help.

The internal memory can be a let down for some but then you can expand it. Other gripe is that the tab only supports 3G dongles of select service providers, so please check the compatibility before buying any 3G plans. It’s after all a budget tablet and at this price with these specs it is definitely right up there in terms of value for money for most users looking at a low cost tablet for content consumption.

Karbonn Smart Tab ST10 Cosmic Affordable Tablet Review

Karbonn Smart Tab ST8 Volex:

This one is a very close relative or a younger brother to the Cosmic ST10. This is identical in its specs to the Cosmic and has the same pros and cons and performance. There are 3 differences between the Karbonn ST10 Cosmic and Karbonn ST8 Volex namely the screen size, camera and the price. The Volex is available for Rs. 6400 and has a 3 MP camera compared to the Cosmic’s 2 MP and an 8 inch capacitive touch screen as against the 9.7 inch of the Cosmic. Although the screen is smaller on the Volex, it has the same resolution and strangely higher ppi (Cosmic has 136 ppi and Volex has 166 ppi) which gives the smaller Volex a slightly better and sharper screen. Apart from that there is no major difference. Camera though a mega pixel larger is not that great so it wont be a major factor. If you are one of those who needs a handy tablet pc than the Volex is a good choice. As mentioned before pros and cons are the same as the larger Cosmic but Volex is smaller, sharper and cheaper.

Karbonn Smart Tab ST7 Tornado:

This is again a relatively new offering from the house of Karbonn Tablet and has the following specs:

  • 7 inch capacitive touch screen, 800 x 480 resolution
  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
  • 1.2 GHz Cortex A9 Single Core processor
  • 512 RAM
  • 1.5 GB internal storage, expandable via micro SD card
  • WIFI, Bluetooth, HDMI, USB connectivity options
  • 3.5 MM audio jack
  • 3G via external USB dongle (only compatible modems)
  • 2 MP front camera
  • NO SIM SUPPORT
  • Price Rs. 5,400

The above configuration is pretty modest and it is baffling why Karbonn had to come up with a tablet with this configuration at this particular price. It is not a bad tablet considering its price but a lot of other brands are offering tablets similar to the above configuration at much lower prices, consider the Micromax Funbook Infinity for example, which is about Rs. 1000 cheaper and this is quite a considerable difference in the low budget category. Having said all that, it is still a decent device and will serve you well for playing your videos, running various apps, browsing the internet and some casual gaming. However for heavy gaming and usage the RAM might be a hindrance. All in all it’s just like any other tablet in the market.

Karbonn Smart Tab ST7 Tornado Android Jellybean Tablet Review

Karbonn Smart Tab 2:

  • 7 inch capacitive touch screen
  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (now shipped with Jelly Bean out-of-the-box)
  • 1.2 GHz Cortex A9 Single Core processor
  • 512 RAM
  • 1 GB internal storage, expandable via micro SD card
  • WIFI, Bluetooth, HDMI, USB connectivity options
  • 3.5 MM audio jack
  • 3G via external USB dongle (only compatible modems)
  • 2 MP rear camera VGA front camera
  • NO SIM SUPPORT
  • Price Rs. 6,000

This Karbonn Tablet has been around for a while now and is still a much better buy than the Tornado. It’s got similar tech specs to that of the Toarnado, but it is now available with Jelly Bean (Android 4.1 OS) and has dual camera and is priced at about the same. Performance wise, the Tab 2 won’t disappoint you as far as casual tablet usage such as web browsing, listening to music and watching HD videos, playing games or running most apps. Again it is not a Gaming tablet so games with heavy graphics won’t work as smooth. Also for about 500 bucks more you can get the dual core Volex with better features.

Karbonn Smart Tab 2 Cheap Android Tablet Review

A lot of tablets are in the market today and competition is tough. Karbonn Android tablets are very much in the fray but mainly with its Cosmic and Volex tablets as they offer some more value for money whilst the Tornado and Smart Tab 2, though not bad are pretty modest at best and for similar price point there are plenty of others in the market. Be wise and be a bit discreet in choosing the right budget tablet as a lot of them are identical but some are a cut above the rest.
